The Challenge
At a site in Naburn, approximately 1,500 tonnes of sludge was being stored on an external pad. During winter months, the material became increasingly difficult to manage, turning to slop and spreading beyond the confines of the storage area.
This created both operational and environmental concerns, requiring a fast and effective containment solution.
Similar challenges were also present at Bridlington and Hull, where material needed to be controlled at centrifuge loading points.

The Solution
Staka-Block™ interlocking concrete blocks from Naylor Concrete were supplied to create temporary containment walls.
Thanks to their interlocking design, the blocks were quickly installed using standard site plant, with no need for mortar or specialist installation methods.
At Naburn, a perimeter wall was constructed to contain the sludge safely within the designated area. The same approach was replicated at additional sites to manage product at key handling points.

The Outcome
The use of Staka-Block™ provided an immediate and practical solution:
